Analyze the properties of a sodium atom and a sodium ion. What are the differences in mass, stability, and reactivity that are caused due to the differences between the sodium atom and sodium ion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. Mass- both have same mass since electron has negligible mass we can almost say that both has same mass 2. Stability- Sodium atom is more stable than sodium ion. Sodium ion will have a tendency to accept electron and bonded to another electronegative atom..But this needs to elaborate...if we say sodium is more stable you can ask why it loss electron in chemical reaction....It loss electron only when thre is another species which can accept electron so that both attains octet configeration.... 3. reactivity...sodium atom is more reactive since it has high tendency to loss electron to get octet.....So in any oxidizing atmosphere sodium will oxidize...
