A 12in piece of string is cut into two pieces. One piece is used to form a circle and the other to from a square. How should the string be cut so that the sum of the areas is minimum?

I came with these two numbers. One piece is approximately 6.72 inches for the circle and the other piece is approximately 5.28 inches for the square.
