A local printing company makes rectangular labels to go on pepsi bottles. The label fits around the bottle once without overlap & has an area of 438 cm2, with height of 12cm, what is the radius of each bottle to nearest tenth cm.
Well the area of the sticker his length*height and they give you height. So the length is 438/12 which equals 36.5. Since the label fits once without overlap around the bottle 36.5 is the circumference of the bottle. The circumference of a circle is equal to 2pi*r. So to find r divide 36.5 by 2pi. This gives you 5.809 cm. The nearest tenth makes it 5.8 cm.
That makes sense thank you and when you mean 438/12= 36.5 did you convert it to inches?
Nope. I didn't mess with the units at all because I assumed all the numbers were in cm.
okay thanks
