x approaches 1 1 from both sides on the line.. for x<1, write x as (1-h) where h is a qty gr8er thn 0 the lim bcomes 6/h for x>1 , write x as (1+h) the lim reduces to -6/h If you reduce h to zero the two result in numbers that are in each case largely positive, negative. thus they dont approach each other to a number. So in the limit it doesnt reduce to one answer, which is why the limit does not exist. :)
