What is azimuthal quantum number?

OpenStudy (istim):

I was doing this stuff today. I don't think I know enough to help though...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its just alot but thank you though

OpenStudy (istim):

I just came to ask a question on what azimuthal was. I am curious.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the second of a set of quantum numbers which describe the unique quantum state of an electron

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

The azimuthial quantum number is second quantum number ; denoted\[\mathcal{\ell}\]it describes the sub-shell the electron is in

OpenStudy (rogue):

Also, the values of the azimutal quantum # can be from 0 to n-1. 0 is the s-subshell, 1 is p-subshell, 2 is d, 3 is f, and so on...
