Veronica has a lawn, ABCD. She has placed a watering hose, BD, as shown below.Part A: Veronica plans to put a fence along the length AD of her lawn. What is the length of the fence required? Part B: Using complete sentences, explain how you arrived at the answer for Part A.
not used to ft, so gonna just talk you through what I think is the sol. using \[a=\sqrt(b^2+c^2)\] you get that BD=35 there you see Â=60 so \[\tan 60 = \sqrt 3\] tan 60 = BD/AD. \[AD=BD/\sqrt3\] \[AD=35*\sqrt3 / 3\]
is it somewhat close to what u need?
A is asking "find AD". Pythan thm on rt. triangle BCD to find that BD = 35. If you realize it's a [3, 4, 5] triangle you can immediately know that BD will be 7*5. If that didn't make sense don't worry because it's not terribly important, just a little trick. Then, 30-60-90 triangle ratios to find AD. BD is medium side and it is 35. Small -> medium? Multiply by sqrt(3). Medium to small? Divide by sqrt(3). AD = 35/sqrt(3). Rationalizing the denominator, AD = 35sqrt(3)/3
bluepig148, your answer is much more detailed than mine! good job
