what are the base paring rules for transciption (mRNA) production?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean with base pare rules? A-G / C-U ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A pairs with U G pairs with C C pairs with G U pairs with A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cant apllicable on rna as base pair rule is always done in double strand..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A with U G with C C with G U with A

Kashika - good point - I believe the asker is referring to how RNA bases pair with the exposed DNA bases during transcription. Which is, in a sense, a double strand. Just want to add something on to Rudi's good answer - Thymine on the DNA template strand would pair with an Adenine RNA base.

I'll take this chance to throw in here something somewhat related...you'll see the terms sense, anti sense, coding, template, Watson strand, Crick strand, used variously. This has always confused me. I remember one strand to be the WATson strand (mini acrostic poem - W for Watson, A for antisense, and T for template), and the opposite strand simply has the opposite names (Crick, Sense, Coding). Your coding strand resembles the completed mRNA, your template strand is what is used as a guide to actually make said mRNA.
