Which statement describes the relationship between temperature and potential energy?

OpenStudy (kainui):

What is temperature? It's the average kinetic energy of particles, which is work. What is potential energy? The potential to do work. So as temperature increases, so does potential energy. Think of it like having a container filled with air. As you heat up the container, the temperature increases. The higher the temperature, the pressure increases until the container eventually explodes. Up until it explodes, kinetic energy released, it's building up potential energy so that it can explode the container. Make sense?
