What would happen to the MnO4- ions if the pH of the solution was too high?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[MnO_4^-\] I think it might cause the solution to oxidize but I'm not really sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Form a salt? I am not sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think if forms a salt because it is already a salt...... KMnO4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh yes, silly me :/ hmm I think \(\mathsf{MnO_4^{-}}\) might get reduced to \(\mathsf{MnO_2}\) in basic solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or, cause the solution to oxidize.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, I guess you were right.

Thanks.
