The energy diagram shown represents the chemical reaction between solid ammonium chloride and solid barium hydroxide octahydrate: 2NH4Cl(s)+Ba(OH)2*8H2O(s)->2NH3(aq)+BaCl2(aq)+10H2O(l). The heat reaction for this reaction is 54.8kJ . How much energy would be absorbed if 24.9g of NH4Cl reacts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that heat is it in kJ/mol or kJ/g

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I typed it word for word. It doesn't specify.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It has a (triangle) H in it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We have to answer in kilojoules

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok is that (triangle = greek letter delta and it means difference between in this case difference in enthalpy at the begining and at the end of the reaction) so does that delta H have index "m" like: \[\Delta H _{m} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it does not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok we need to find out what is the amount in 24,9 g n=m/M = 24,9 g/ 53,482 gmol-1 = 0,4656 mol so if for reaction there is necesary 2 moles of reactant NH4Cl than we have now ratio as follows: 0,4656/2 = 0,2328 so heat necesary is: 0,2328 * 54,8 kJ = 12,75 kJ this is at least how i would solve it...

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

12.43KJ

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

ur right kryten

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

it should be 12.43 KJ not 1243KJ

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

2 mole of NH4Cl mean -2*mol wt of NH4Cl=2*54=108 gram if 108 gram gives 54.8 KJ then 24.9 gram gives=54.8*24.9/108 =12.43KJ

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you calculated with mass and i with moles but in esence premisse is the same...

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

yaaaa just i showed how fun is chemistry !!!ur right !!!but last answer u put is coma after 12is not correct !!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12.43 is not correct. :(

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

then what is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't get it yet.

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

what option they have given tell me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12.8 is the fina answer. Thanks for your help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its not
