Net Ionic equations Write the net ionic equation A zinc chloride solution is mixed with a sodium phosphate solution, forming a precipitate of solid zinc phosphate and a solution chloride solution.
That's some nasty deliquescent brine you have there... Zinc (II) Chloride & Trisodium Phosphate Write out the ions: Zinc : +2 Chloride : 2(-1) Sodium : 3(+1) Phosphate : (-3) Write a balanced equation 3 ZnCl\(_2\) + 2 Na\(_3\)PO\(_4\) \(\rightarrow\) 6 NaCl + Zn\(_3\)(PO\(_4\))\(_2\) +6 -6 for everything now so we're good You need to learn the terms of your anions (-) and cations (+). That part is memorization, with a dash of common sense (because If you need to write the redox half-reactions for this now, I've got you started in a big way. Hope this helps! ;-)
FYI: Zinc chloride is deliquescent (sucks up water from the environment). And trisodium phosphate is also deliquescent if it's anhydrous. Since what you wrote was solutions, that means it's dissolved in something, most likely water. If it's not dissolved in water, watchout. All of these chemical except sodium chloride pose a moderate health risk to humans (NFPA 704 health code, the blue diamond, is #2 for them). If you're doing an experiment with these be careful and watch your pH please!
