Why do we balance ionic equations , and on what basis ? And how can the ions transfer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to get a proper balanced equation that can be used for calculations.....without knowing how much ions react with how much counter ions calculations like....equilibrium constant will be meaningless...in ionic reactions the ions combine according to their valancies ..consider the decomposition of k2so4.....2k+....so42-...we have two positive potassium ions..and one negative sulphate ion...its obvious now both sides are balanced....u kno tht all chemical eqn obey law of conservation of mass...
