HELLO SIR..VAN U HELP ME OUT WITH THIS QUESTION...IN LEWIN'S LEC ABT NEWTON'S LAWS HE SAYS CENTRIPETAL ACCELERATION OF A POINT ON EARTH AROUND ITSELF IS 300 TIMES SMALLER THAN THE EARTHS GRAVITY...THEN HE SAYS IF WE TAKE THE OTION OF EARTH AROUND SUN IT ADDS ANOTHER FIVE TIMES SMALLER...WHAT IS THIS???

OpenStudy (jamesj):

The last part is referring to the centripetal acceleration you and I feel as the earth orbits the sun. This is easy to calculate as \( a = \omega^2 r \) where \( \omega \) corresponds to an period of one year and \( r \) is the distance of the earth from the sun.

OpenStudy (jamesj):

PS Please don't write questions all in block capitals. It makes it seem like YOU ARE SHOUTING AT US!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops sorry

OpenStudy (jamesj):

So r = 1.50 x 10^11 m and T = 1 year = xxx seconds. Find \( \omega \) from T and calculate away. What answer do you find?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.00007 rad/s

OpenStudy (jamesj):

I mean for a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.0337 m /s2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey @JamesJ idk if you know it but today is the international CAPSLOCK day. I think that was why @mathavraj was typing with the CAPS on. ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wooow...it was a perfect coincidence dude..its cool...thanks @rajathsbhat
