The function y = 16t^2 + 486 models the height y in feet of a stone t seconds after it is dropped from the edge of a vertical cliff. How long will it take the stone to hit the ground? Round to the nearest hundredth of a second.

do you know calculus?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

diffrentiate y wrt time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not very much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[dy/dt=16.d(t^{2} )/dt + d(486)/dt\] \[dy/dt=16.2.t.dt/dt+0\] (as derivative of constant is=0 and dt/dt=1) so\[dy/dt=32t\] now if y is height and t is time then dy/dt is change in height wrt time so it is velocity of falling stone at any time t.
