\[\frac{ y^2+y-20 }{ y+5 }\]

My Teacher went really fast today. Can someone explain the steps?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

factors of -20?? that add up to -1 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first factor the top (y+5)(y-4) then you can cancel out the y+5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so all you're left with is y-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He was showing us how to do it using a method that looked just like long division.
