357 g of mercury cools from 76.0°C to 15.0°C. What is the amount of heat liberated(in kJ)? The specific heat of Hg is 0.139 J/ gºC.

OpenStudy (goformit100):

what is the formula of specific heat ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is the energy needed to heat 1g of the substance 1 degreee Celsius. My answer is 3.0x10^3 kJ, but my teacher said it's off by a power of 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I calculated q= mc DeltaT q = 357 g x .139 j/gC x 61 and got 3.0 x 10^3 J then for 1 kj there is 1000 J so it becomes 3.0 kJ
