I'll be attaching a picture of my question, please check it out :) (I only have to solve part a) Sorry for the many questions, I wanna get a perfect score on my assignment.

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

One word: Yikes :D This is tedious, I hope you're ready for some data overload (Not sure if it will be to you, but for me, it sure looks like a lot :) ) Up for it?

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

I am up for anything! I really need to understand the concept at well! :o

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

"Shaded region" is the reddish part, I assume? Ok, if you don't mind, I'd rather do (b) first, the perimeter? It seems simpler :D

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

*as

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

I only need to solve part a though.

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

would finding the perimeter help finding part a?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Crud I really need to learn how to read :D Sorry. Let's get to part a then :D

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Area of that reddish region, is equal to the area of the circular sector (that thing that looks roughly like a slice of pizza) minus the area of that triangle (the unshaded part of the slice of pizza)

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

Right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so area of the sector is = 1/2 *r^2 *angle in this case 1/2 * 10^2 * 72pie/180 = 20 pie now area of triangle = 1/2 ab sin theta 1/2 *10*10*sin 72=12.691 shaded area is = 20 pie - 12.691=50.14

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

1/2 *10*10*sin 72=12.691 How is that? I tried it & I'm getting something else.

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Make sure your calculator is not in radians... remember, 72 is in DEGREE measure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perimeter now arc length s=r theta ( in radians) like in the previous step 72pie/180 10*72pie/180= 4pie use cosine rule C^2-A^2-B^2/-2AB= Cos Theta C is unknown and theta is 72 C^2-200/-200 = .309 C^2-200=-61.803 C^2=138.197 C=11.76 perimeter = 11.76 + 4pie

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

it is in degrees! hmm

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

Oh I didn't need to do the perimeter :) but thanks for showing me!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i calculated the area of triangle with my cal in radians!

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

I realised... Hey @hashsam1 1/2 *10*10*sin 72=12.691 only if 72 is in radians...

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Oh, late :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know . 47.55 . 20pie - 47.55=15.28 duh yaay done !!!

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

okay wait, why did we subtract 47.55

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

Ohh... hm, I'm trying to understand everything, sorry. It's taking me awhile

OpenStudy (anonymous):

total area of sector- area of triangle to get= area of shaded region

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)
