I need help with writing chemical equation and explaining where I get it from please?!
Take 120 mL water in a beaker. Fill a pyrex test tube with water and invert it into the beaker. Add 40 mL 4.0 M HCl and mix. Using tolgs, hold 2-3 pieces of Mg in the solution collecting the gas in the test tube. Test the gas with a match............................... Now write a balanced equation for the reaction observed and explain the reasoning for coming up with it?
Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) --> MgCl2(aq) + H2(g) I get this for Mg Hcl reaction, but where does the water come in on the equation? =/
@chmvijay You're usually pretty helpful... can you look at this please?
Mg + 2HCl + H2O --> MgCl2 + H2 (gas) is this right???
water will not come in equation. but vapors will be there in that test tube where you get hydrogen evolved in the from of bubbles!!!they say you u should only measure the H2 and not the water vapors in that test tube!!!measuring the volume of H2(g), you need to take into account that water vapour is mixed with the H2(g).
Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) --> MgCl2(aq) + H2(g) its right
So you wouldn't account for the water at all?.. I know that it isn't part of the reaction, but it seems like I would lose points for not putting h2o in there?
Mg + 2HCl + H2O = MgCl2 + H2 (gas) you can write like this but H2O is not involved in the reaction .
Okay. Thanks. I am trying to do my lab write up and I get so confused on this stuff! Give me equations and I am fine, but coming up with things like this on my own I really suck at.
no problem!!Ur welcome!!
