For this portfolio assessment, you will be finding the surface area and volume for two solids from your home. Once you have completed each of the following steps, you will submit your portfolio to your teacher so that it can be graded. Find two solids from around your house. One should be a cylinder such as a soup can, oatmeal container, or paper towel tube; and the other should be a rectangular prism such as a cereal box, tissue box, or macaroni and cheese box. You will need a centimeter ruler for this activity. For each of the solids, you will be finding the dimensions, drawing a net, calculating the surface area and volume, and determining what the volume would be if the objects were a cone and pyramid. You will need to submit your drawings of the nets separatley. Click on the link below to access the Surface Area and Volume in the Real World worksheet, which will guide you through each of the steps.
