OpenStudy (anonymous):

How far/long?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how far will i travel at these speeds for these times? 15 minutes at 40 kph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since its 40 kilometers per HOUR, then you think of how long an hour is. 60 minutes. How long is 15 minutes compared to 60? One fourth. Divide 40 by 4 and you get the distance traveled in 15 minutes while going 40kph.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

45 minutes at 100 kph so do you divide 45 by 100?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not exactly. You find what 45 minutes is of an hour. 45/60 simplifies to 3/4. What is 3 fourths of 100? That's the distance traveled in 45 minutes at 100kph. The way to do it boils down to a few simple steps. 1.Find what part the time is of the perhour part like I did above. 45 minutes to 60 minutes because the speed is a perhour rate. 2.Once you have that, find that portion of the speed. 3/4 of 100 is 75 as calculated by the fraction we got.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you divide 100 by 4 and multiply it by 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm i have this question sorry to bother u again 80 kph in 12 minutes so 12/60 simplify it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No XD Find what the ratio between the rate/speed and the time actually traveled. Like I did above, you said you traveled 45 minutes, right? Your speed was 100 kilometers per hour (this is what KPH means). This means that for every 60 minutes you travel, you'll cover 100 kilometers. But we didn't go the full 100 kilometers. We only went 45. We need to find out what the ratio for 45 out of 60 is so we can find out how to fix 100 kph. 45/60 simplifies to 3/4. This means that if you traveled 45 minutes at 100kph, you would have traveled 3/4 of an hour. What is 3/4 of 100? We know its 75. This means that we went 75 kilometers per 45 minutes. Does this make sense? Once you get this concept down the other problems should come quite easily.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you have any other questions about this, be sure to message me ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have about 20 to do :( i only get it wen u just tell wat to divide or watever this is too long

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea ino u just divide 100 by 4 and multiply by 3 and i got 75 that's the same way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I explained the problem you gave me in detail. I'll replace the numbers with variables so you can plug in the numbers in each of the new problems and solve them easily.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u simplify??????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you traveled X minutes and your speed was Y kilometers per hour (this is what KPH means). This means that for every X minutes you travel, you'll cover Y kilometers. But we didn't go the full Y kilometers. We only went N. We need to find out what the ratio for X out of 60 (the minute values, 60 is there because it is the number of minutes in an hour) is so we can find out how to fix Y kph. Simplify as much as you can X/60. This means that if you traveled X minutes at Y kph, you would have traveled (insert simplified fraction here) of an hour. To find how far you traveled in X minutes, take Y and the fraction. Using the fraction, find out what portion of Y it is. (Like I did above) 3 fourths of 100 is 75. When all is worked out you should get the distance traveled in X minutes. Does this make more sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You simplify by finding the number you can divide both the numerator and denominator by that gives you the smallest answer. As I showed above, 45/60 was able to simplify to 3/4 because both the numbers were divisible by 15. If you can find the largest number to divide both the top and the bottom by to get a whole number without a decimal so that you can no longer divide the top and bottom anymore, you;v simplified the fraction. ALWAYS make sure you divide the top and bottom by the SAME number at the SAME time. If you can't divide one, you can't divide the other.
