Hi there! Do you still need help with this question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great! Do you understand this topic at all, or are you completely lost?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just got confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Temperature A. is not related to thermal energy. B. only pertains to heat transfer, not thermal energy. C. is an indicator of the amount of thermal energy that an object possesses. D. is exactly the same as thermal energy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, my computer was spazzing out! Before i help you choose the correct answer, let me give you a definition of "temperature:" "Temperature is a measure of the average heat or thermal energy of the particles in a substance." That means that temperature and thermal energy are related, but they aren't necessarily the same thing. Does this help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you see any that you can eliminate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i forgot what is a eliminate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which ones? for instance, I see that option D is ridiculous. It can't be exactly the same, according to the definition of temperature! So we can cross option D off - or eliminate it. that means that we won't be picking answer D, because it is obviously wrong. Does that make sense? Eliminate means to "get rid of".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@james232131

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I chose b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, actually, answer 'b' would be wrong. Heat transfer is a form of thermal energy, so they do pertain to each other. So we have to eliminate that answer, too. Option A is also a silly answer, which you obviously knew because you didn't choose it. That means that option "C" is the answer. Do you understand why that is? Here's why: ☼ My definition: "Temperature is a measure of the average heat or thermal energy of the particles in a substance." ☼ Option C Definition: Temperature is an indicator of the amount of thermal energy that an object possesses. even though the words are slightly different, the message is the same: Temperature tells how much thermal energy is inside something. :) Does this make sense?
