A rectangular window measures 54 inches by 24 inches. There is an a = 14-inch wiper blade attached by a b = 4-inch arm at the center of the base of the window, as shown in the figure below. If the arm rotates 120°, approximate the percentage of the window's area that is wiped by the blade.

Area of window=54*24=1296sq in. Area wiped by blade= \[\frac{ 120 }{ 360}\pi(18^{2}-4^{2})=\frac{ 308 }{ 3}\pi\] taking pi=3.14 Area wiped approx =322.37 sq in So, % of total area of window wiped= \[\frac{ 322.27 }{ 1296}\times100=24.87\] approx 25%
