Nitrogen and hydrogen gases react to form ammonia gas as follows: N2 (g) + 3H2 (g) -----> 2NH3 (g) At a certain temperature and pressure, 1.2 L of N2 reacts with 3.6 L of H2. If all the N2 and H2 are consumed, what volume of NH3, at the same temperature and pressure, will be produced?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

because of avogadro's law, we can use the volumes of gas as additive properties, just like we can use moles. Combining 1.2"units" of N2 and 3.6"units" of H2 will produce a stoichiometric amount of NH3. The coefficients of the balanced reaction give us the answer.

OpenStudy (anoop27):

Answer is 2.4

OpenStudy (anoop27):

using Gay Lussac Volume 1L of N2 reacts with 3L of H2 to give 2L of Nh3 therefore 1.2L of N2 reacts with 3.6L of h2 to give 2.4L of NH3
