Someone help me understand Lewis dot structures and VSEPR?

Lewis dots are representation of the valence shell electrons of an element. For instance, oxygen (which has 6 electrons in it's valence shell) can bond with two hydrogen atoms (which have 1 valence electron in it's shell.
