The quadratic formula can be used to solve such a problem \[\boxed{ax^2+bx+c=0\qquad\implies\qquad x_{1,2}=\dfrac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}}\]
so first get \(3x^2+9x=84\) into the right form (with everything on the left hand side ) then can you tell me what \(a,b,c \) are ?

It can't be 2.59 because that equals 83.etc. Can't be above 2.60 or its too much. You'll have to round. Therefore it has to be 2.60
when you use the quadratic formula you'll find x=4,-7
