Which of the following structures is a resonant structure of benzene (C6H6) molecule shown below: Picture attached.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

well it's not a "resonant structure" if you change the structure i.e. if it's cyclical and you make it aliphatic.. also watch out for making more bonds than possible. Carbon can't make (at least in a stable form) more than 4 bonds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks. Would A be correct? @aaronq

OpenStudy (aaronq):

look at the number of bonds on the right hand corner carbon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm... would C then be the correct answer?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

lol are you guessing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No i am just so confused:(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

final thought : Is B the right answer? @aaronq

OpenStudy (aaronq):

well B would be a different molecule. Remember i said if you change the actual structure, it won't be a "resonant structure"?

OpenStudy (anoop27):

Answer out of 4 is C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aaronq Yes, I understand. But still I don't know which is correct :(
