a chemical bond in which one atom loses an electron to form a positive ion and the other atom gains an electron to form a negative ion. thats an ionic bond. hope it helps!

exactly, in ionic the metals tend to loose their valence elctrons, becoming a positive ion,while a non-metal which reacts with it, gains that electron allowing it become a negative ion. so, that's why the metals, non-metals and the delocalised electrons have opposite charges, which causes the particles to repel
