reallllly stumped here, please help! Using the Periodic Table of the Elements with Atomic Mass to list the densities of all the metals in Group 2A, discuss the trend that exists in Group 1A in terms of density. Why does this trend exist?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

as you go from top to bottom density increases !!

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

you want to compare the density of 2A and 1A group??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is the question i was given to answer by my professor! word for word

OpenStudy (anonymous):

about which trend U r supposed to ask... however in the group the nuclear charge density inc. and in period only density inc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh? @moezhaxxan

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wat do u mean by ''huh''???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

'about which trend U r supposed to ask'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

density????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes density

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

compared to the density of 1A group in the same period are lower than the density of 2 A groups :)

OpenStudy (aaronq):

^ this is true, for example the ionic radius of Mg2+ is smaller than Li+ so they can "pack" closer together.
