what is the difference between calogon conditioning and phosphate conditioning

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

in most general terms in phosphate the compound added is Na3PO4 which precipitates Calcium as its phosphate while in calgon its Na2(Na4(PO3)6 sodium hexameta phosphate.....which makes a soluble complex Ca2P6O18 which remains in dissolved form n does not cause any harm to boiler... :think So in phosphate it is a precipitate which is formed n removed while in calgon a dissolved complex is produced which remains in boiler without causing any harm

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

calgon conditioning is better than phosphate conditioning because it forms a water soluble complex Na2[Ca2(PO3)6] and does not form even scales.
