We assume a small decrement 'h' from 5.. when h->0, x->5 LHL = lim(h->0) 5-(5-h) =5-5+h = 0 Simlarly we assume a small increment 'h' from 5.. when h->0, x->5 RHL = lim(h->0) 5+h+5 = 10 Since LHL != RHL, limit does not exist... It approches 0 from left, 10 from right and has a value of 8 at x=5.. got it ? :P
