In the real world there are many materials that you encounter every day. Give an example of a material that is an insulator and another material that is a conductor that you may use on a regular basis. Why do you think these materials were chosen for their particular function? Apply your knowledge: Food stores usually store frozen foods in freezers that are open at the top. Why does the warm air not melt the food?

the fireplace may keep you warm, but that is a different process. think of things you might wear if you go outside. what are they made of?

Jackets? Sweaters? I don't know.

jackets and sweaters keep you warm because they are made out of material that are insulators. Wool is a common material in sweater. Also in the attic of a house, they insulate it with fiberglass battens, or cotton blowin. An insulator works by trapping air inside of it, and air is a poor conductor of heat.

the pots and pans are made out of conductors of heat, to help transfer the heat from the heating elements to the food. Metals are generally good conductors of heat.

im not too sure how an open freezer works ... i think it has something to do with cold air being denser that warm air so it doesnt rise up and out of the freezers

the sides of the freezers would have to be insulated to prevent the warm air from seeping in underneath
