A section of a hiking trail begins at the coordinates (-7, 5) and follows a straight path that ends at the coordinates (3, 9). What is the rate of change of the hiking trail?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

find the slope of the line the slope formula is \[m = \frac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{2}}\] so using your information you will have \[m = \frac{9 - 5}{3 - (-7)} \] when you evaluate the slope you will have the rate of change in the trail.

question ; so when i solved the question . i got 4/10 . and thats not one of my answers choice ... my answer choice is 2/5 5/2 -2/5 -5/2

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well when you simplify 4/10... there is a common factor of 2 in the numerator and denominator |dw:1366675171570:dw| hope this makes sense
