how does H2So4 break up to h+ & hso4 -

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So hso4- is a weaker acid than h3o+ shouldn't equilibrium be to the left and only one proton disociate from h2so4. Why or how do both hydrogens dissociate?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

can u write the reaction for that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

H2so4 +2 h20 -- so4 (-2) + 2 h3o+

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Completely dissociates right? Strong acid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But hso4- is a weaker acid than h30+ ..... I think I figured it out. Theres more h2o...... and its a strongeracid than that..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just couldn't wrap my head around that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is a strong acid because of complete dissociation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

h+ +hso4- is the first step in the dissociation
