just need this cheeked Find the if then form hypothesis conclusion converse invers and contrapositive of the statement:Two angles are complementary if the sum of their measures is 90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if then form-Two angles are complementary if the sum of their measures is 90 hypothesis-the sum of their measure is 90 conclusion-two angles are complementary converse-if the sum of their measures is 90,then two angles are complementary inverse-if the sum of their measures is not 90, then the two angles are not complementary contrapositive-two angles are complementary, then the sum of their measure is not 90

@jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how far did you get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have my answers above

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh sry, thought those were answer choices one sec

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Two angles are complementary if the sum of their measures is 90 is equivalent to saying IF the sum of their measures is 90, THEN two angles are complementary

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so the original IF..., THEN... form is If the sum of their measures is 90, then two angles are complementary

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The hypothesis is always first, so Hypothesis: the sum of their measures is 90 the conclusion comes after Conclusion: two angles are complementary

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

with me so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup i got it so far

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok when dealing with something like If P, then Q, the converse of that is If Q, then P

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

here I'll write out all the basic forms Original: If P, then Q Converse: If Q, then P Inverse: If not P, then not Q Contrapositive: If not Q, then not P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the converse- if tow angles are complementary then the sum of their measures is 90 inverse- if the sum of their measures is not 90 then two angles are not complementary conterapositive- if their is not 90 then the two angles are not complementary

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

everything looks good except for the contrapositive

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you forgot to flip things

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh i would switch them haha

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you help me understand why this stamen is valid?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

this is known to be a definition, which is something we set up to be true according to these rules

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so because of this, the two are equivalent ie...if the angles are complementary, then they add to 90 degrees or if the angles add to 90 degrees, then they are complementary so the two are interchangeable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh ok thanks so much for the help :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
