If angle H = angle R, angle G = angle P, and angle Q = angle F, are the following triangles similar? Justify your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in similar triangle if the ratio of same is always equal . so in this case the ratio of all sides is equal so it is a similar triangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

HG/RP = HF/RQ = FG/PQ @SunshineGirl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have absolutely no idea where to even start on this problem. I don't know what numbers go where in that equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are some condition for similarity of two triangles. firstly do you know what are similar triangles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you just tell me how I figure out whether they're similar or not? Is there a specific way? I know what similar triangles are, by definition, but not how to identify them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am telling you there are some condition that you have to remember to find triangles are similar or not. first one that i told above the side ratio is always equal . second if two same angle of two triangles are equal then also they will be similar triangles. ex. suppose angle R= angle H and angle F = angle Q. then they will similar traingles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is one more condition that if two sides and the angle between them is equal in two triangle then they both are similar.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, so what do I do?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The definition of similar triangles is triangles in which each pair of corresponding angles is congruent. According to the definition, the triangles are similar just from the information about the angles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, but I still don't know how to figure this problem ou

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*out

@SunshineGirl lets take your question example. in this, this is given that all the corresponding angles are equal. R=H ,P=G and F = Q this is one condition to check the similarity of two triangles. second condition , you also give the size of sides in both triangles. so, ratio can also be calculated to check the similarity. HG/RP = HF/RQ = FG/PQ here you can put the value of each side , you will get that all the sides are equal. third condition, in this condition if two sides of two triangles are in same ratio and the angle between these two sides is also equal , then these will be similar. in your question just forget other sides. suppose you have given only HG and HF in first triangle and RP and RQ in second triangle and the angle between them H in first and R in second . so if ratio of these two sides and the given angle is equal they are similar. if any one conditon become true the triangles become similar. so remember these terms ::: SSS (side side side (remember ratio of sides))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so remember these terms ::: SSS (side side side (remember ratio of sides)) AAA( angle angle angle) SAS ( side angle side)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, will I don't get it at all, but thanks for your time. I'll give you best response anyway

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you do practice you will easily get it. try to solve as much as problem you can. just remember sss, aaa, and sas...... there is nothing else in it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright well thanks, but I just don't get it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, @Lynnkaz1 also have similar problem i think as you have
