A lift contains a person of mass 70kg. The lift itself has mass 500kg. The tension in the cable holding the lift is 6000N. a) what is the acceleration? b) is the lift moving up or down? c) What is the reaction force of the lift on the person?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

F = m x a

Please expand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

F = (500kg + 70kg) x a can see the reason for adding 500 and 70kg?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, but doesn't gravity play a part too. Therefore I have to multiply by 9.8 at some point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that's right, so we get F = 570 x a + 570 x g

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also, we know both the gravitational constantt and F was 6000 N

write again with entered variables the equation above
