What is the ionization equation for Br? Would it be Br2 (g) +e- = Br2- (g)

it would be: \(Br + e^- \rightarrow Br^-\)

the atom is picking up an electron to complete it's p orbital

but, isn't Br a polyatomic therefore you would need Be2

Br does exist as a diatomic molecule, but \(Br_2\) wouldn't accept electrons that readily because it has a full valence set. I mean you can write it as \(Br_2 + e^-\rightarrow Br_2^-\) but it's not likely that, that would happen.
