OpenStudy (anonymous):
In our lab we identified 6 unknown compounds based on its reactions w/ other compounds. 2 were INSOLUBLE(CaCO3 and MgO). The question ask why AgNO3 was NOT used to test the insoluble compounds.

Nitrates are all soluble, Ag complexes are pretty insoluble... so maybe because it's not cheap? lol I'm not sure, maybe the other unknowns didnt precipitate with silver.
