when I combined the like terms the first time, I got \[\frac{ x^3y^7 }{ x^2y^5 }\] then when I simplify it, I get xy^2.... That isn't one of the choices though

and then you have to get a common denominator... the Common denominator would be x^2y^5 then you'd multiply the x by x^2 and the y^2 by y^5 thus getting x^3y^7/x^2y^5...... Right?

you're correct.... just don't forget is just the denominator, so \(\bf \cfrac{xy^2}{y^5x^2}\implies \cfrac{1}{y^3x}\)
