dy/dx [x^2+y^2=1]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x + 2y dy/dx = 0 (implicit differentiation on both sides) 2y dy/dx = - 2x dy/dx = -2x/2y or dy/dx = -x/y Done.

By the way, x^2 + y^2 = 1 is a unit circle, so what the answer is telling us, is that dy.dx, the slope of the tangent line to the circle at ANY point on the circle will have a value of -x/y (where x and y are the coordinates of the point on the circle).
