how to calculate ionization of a weak acid. given pka 4.797, pH 4.756 . thanks!

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

pKa = -log Ka where Ka is the ionization constant

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Do you know how to solve for Ka?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

you can also use the henderson-hasselbalch equation for a shortcut pH=pKa+log[A-]/[HA]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i understand how to get the ka and ph concentrations, but i need to find out how to set up the values to get the ionization percent

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Ahh, I see. I don't remember how to do it exactly and don't have time to remind myself at the moment. I did find an example that you may find helpful. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091222061041AAWzvKL
