What is the correct formula when Aluminum and Nitrogen are combined? a. Al3N c. AlN b. AlN3 d. Al2N

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alway have a peridodic table ready :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well according the periodic table Nitrogens position in it is in such a way that it needs 3 electrons to reach the form of a noble gas. Or a full octet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is AlN3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

However the position of Al is kinda of like in the middle and I dont remember its charge i think it may have 3 kinds of charges. SO i will look it up on a list or table of common ions I think it has 3 :) so no i think your choice is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

save that it will come in very useful but basically it says N is 3- and Al is 3+ so you need 1 and 1 AlN then :)

thanks
