In how many ways can 4 women and 3 men be arranged in a row, if there are 8 women and 5 men to select from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it's not like that. The answer is 3538000, but how to find it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7!/(3! 4!) * P(8,4) * P(5,3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure it isn't 3528000 instead?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

typo maybe?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, you're right, it is 3528000 but could you explain part after 7!/(3! 4!)? You mean P(8,4) as a fraction without line, or a vector?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

P stands for permutation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it's like 7!/(3! 4!) * 8!/(4!*4!) * 5!/(5!*3!)? Then the answer is not 352800 in fact

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you used combination instead. Try 8!/(8-4)! and 5!/(5-3)!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now I got it, thanks a lot
