Set both equations equal to each other, 11x+250=26x+175 -11x -11x get the x together _____________________ 250=15x+175 -175 -175 get x by itself _____________________ 75=15x /15 /15 divide by 15 to get x or number of tvs need to be sold to get the same amount of money

Well if you read the last sentence, it says the equation is when they earn the same amount of money. Knowing that you have to set both of the equations together to find x, once you find x, plug that back into the two equations and you will see that they both earned the same amount of money. The correct answer is A, x=5, when plugged back into both equations, you get \$305

In other words Diane and Ethan BOTH have to sell 5 TVs in order for both of them to earn the same amount of money.
