OpenStudy (haileyd):

Which chemical formula is which? synthesis, decomposition, replacement a. 1 P4 + 3 O2 --> 2 P2O3 b. 1 CF4 + 2 Br2 --> 1 CBr4 + 2 F2 c. 2HgO --> 2Hg + O2

OpenStudy (aaronq):

In synthesis reactions you join 2 (or more) things together into one, making something new. They have the form: A + B -> C Decomposition reactions is the opposite, one thing breaks apart (normally when you apply heat). It has the form: C -> A + B In displacement reactions there are "exchanges" of groups or atoms. It can have this form: AB + C -> AC + B (single displacement) or this form: AB + CD -> AD + AC (double displacement)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Synthesis means that two compounds combine together to form one, so thats A Decomposition means that a compound breaks down to form two simpler compounds and or elements so that is C Single Displacement reactions occur when a more reactive metal is combining with a compound with a less reactive metal, and thus the more reactive metal displaces the least reactive metal. so that is B E.G. A + BC ---> AC + B, if A is more reactive than B

thanks for medal :)
