Can someone help? Given f(x) and g(x) = f(x) + k, look at the graph below and determine the value of k. k = ______ Graph of two lines. f of x equals 3 x plus 2 and g of x equals 1 over 3 x plus 5

@campbell_st

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

can I just check \[g(x) = \frac{1}{3} x + 5\]

OpenStudy (jocelynstalnaker):

?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

or is it \[g(x) = \frac{1}{3x + 5}\]

OpenStudy (jocelynstalnaker):

No i think its the other one.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... so \[\frac{1}{3} x + 5 = 3x + 2 + k\] so \[k = -2\frac{2}{3}x + 3\]

OpenStudy (jocelynstalnaker):

Thats it?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well if you look at it \[3x - 2\frac{2}{3} x = \frac{1}{3} x\] and for the constant term \[2 + 3 = 5\] combining them you get g(x)

OpenStudy (jocelynstalnaker):

Oh ok!! Thank you again!
