Why does the fluorine atom tend to gain only one electron? @aaronq

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Look at where it is positioned on the periodic table. It's \(2p\) set of orbitals needs only 1 electron to be full - when it gains that 1 electron it has the configuration of a noble gas and it's stable.
