i need help on this If a neutral atom has a mass of 12 amu and an atomic number of 5, determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in the atom.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Atomic number is = to number of protons so 5. Mass number is = protons + neutrons. Mass = 12. so 12 - 5 = 7 which gives the neutrons. Finally providing the atom is not an ion ie neutally charhed the electrons will = the protons ie. 5
