Please help!! A scientist mixes an unknown powder into a beaker of water. He then uses an indicator and finds that the pH of the resulting solution is 8.5. What can he infer from this observation? A. The unknown powder was acidic. B. The unknown powder decreased the hydrogen ion concentration of the water. C. The indicator used can measure only basic solutions. D. The powder contains hydrogen ions.

I think it's A. Someone said it was B but I don't think so because the natural pH of water is 7. It's not C so...

unless making it a base decreases the hydrogen ion concentration? I'm not sure.

I think it's B now.
