Two objects each have a positive charge. The total charge on both objects is 315 µC. When the objects are placed a distance of 1.15 m apart, each exerts an electrostatic force of 20.1 N on the other. What is the charge on each object? (Give your answers in µC.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use the formula for the force between the two charges... taking note that Q1=315-Q2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have 2 equations, 2 unknowns... it can be solve...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I solve for Q1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[F=\frac{Q_1Q_2}{4\pi\epsilon_0r^2}~~~~(1)\]\[Q_1=315-Q_2~~~~(2)\]plug-in values and substitute (2) to (1), there on you can solve for \(Q_2\) first, then use (2) to solve for \(Q_1\)...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@surgeyou have you solved it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i got it thanks
